Main Responsibilities

Wellness Programs:

Offering services which promote healthy lifestyles through fitness classes, informative nutrition workshops, community health fairs and preventive healthcare initiatives.

Mental Health Services:

Offer counseling and support to help with mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and trauma. This includes group therapy, mental health awareness campaigns, and stress management workshops.

Band Membership Services:

  • Manage membership records and provide support for registration and documentation.
  • Assist members in accessing benefits, services, and resources available to them through their band affiliation.

Cultural Activities:

  • Organize cultural events, ceremonies, and festivals that celebrate and preserve our traditions and heritage.
  • Promote participation in traditional arts, crafts, music, and dance.

Cree Language Programs:

Offer language classes and workshops to promote the learning and use of the Cree language among all age groups. Language resources like dictionaries and learning materials are developed to support language revitalization efforts.

Elders’ Involvement:

Create opportunities for intergenerational knowledge sharing through storytelling, mentorship, and cultural teaching sessions. We also advocate for elders to engage in advisory roles to guide department’s programs and initiatives.

Land-Based Programs:

  • Implement programs which promote land-based education that connect community members to the land through traditional practices such as hunting, fishing, foraging, and medicinal plant gathering.
  • Traditional ways of life.

Public Health Roles:

  • Coordinate public health initiatives aimed at disease prevention, health education, and emergency preparedness.
  • Partner with local health authorities to deliver vaccination clinics, health screenings, and community health education sessions.

Services/Programs Offered

Wellness: Babies, children’s, women & family programs

Elder’s Department: Elders Council administrative support, elder’s programs, outreach services

Mental Health: Promotion and prevention on mental health issues

Public Health: Trainings, local women’s association special needs, diabetes conference, elder’s care planning

Miyuupamaatsuin Committee: The coordinator provides administrative support for the committee. This committee works with the Chief and Council to advise and recommend on all Miyupimaatisiiun initiatives and special projects for the Ouje-Bougoumou Cree Nation. The committee identifies opportunities for collaboration and efficient use of financial, human, and infrastructure resources in the community.

Finance & Band Clerk: Finance & budget workshops, birth certification, Indian status, band transfer/registries, death certificates, family allowance, newborn baby’s registry, tax income 

Cultural: Seasonal programs, aboriginal day, canoe excursion, wellness journey & gatherings.

Land Based: provide a place for community programs that are focused on promoting our Cree way of life, developing life skills, and wellness programs that promote culture, therapy, healing, aftercare, and healthy lifestyles.
